Oppex vs. FireHydrant: Paging, Alert Grouping and AI Included

Oppex AI is a FireHydrant alternative with alert grouping, phone and SMS paging and AI investigation in every paid plan. FireHydrant Pro is $25 per responder per month; phone and SMS notifications are bought separately, and alert grouping and FireHydrant AI are Enterprise features. Oppex Business is $20 per user per month with all of them, including Oppex Nova, the AI SRE agent. FireHydrant is now part of Freshworks.

FireHydrant built a strong reputation on a good insight: incident response should be treated like infrastructure, with runbooks, a service catalog and retrospectives you can version and improve. Freshworks agreed to acquire it in December 2025 and plans to make it the incident management layer inside Freshservice, its IT service desk.

How is Oppex different from FireHydrant?

  • Noise handled on every plan. FireHydrant puts alert grouping on Enterprise. Oppex groups and correlates alerts from New Relic, Datadog, CloudWatch, Grafana and your other tools into one incident on every plan, and shows why each alert was grouped.
  • Paging that rings. On FireHydrant Pro, phone and SMS notifications are an extra purchase. Oppex escalates by phone call, SMS, WhatsApp, Slack and push until someone acknowledges, included.
  • AI that investigates, below Enterprise. FireHydrant AI is an Enterprise feature focused on summaries, transcripts and retros. Oppex Nova, the Oppex AI SRE agent, investigates every incident on Business: likely cause, confidence level and recommended fix in about two minutes, with the evidence linked.
  • Built for engineering, not a service desk. As FireHydrant moves into Freshservice, Oppex stays built only for engineering incident response.

What changes for your team

5×faster MTTR
70%less noise
50%less on-call effort
2×fewer late-night calls
3×faster onboarding

Results reported by Oppex customers. Your own numbers are measured in a free one-week noise audit before you commit.

In a typical 2 a.m. incident — a bad deploy to checkout that fires 38 alerts in four minutes — a paging-first tool takes about 2 hours 10 minutes, six people and seven manual steps to resolve it. With Oppex it takes about 9 minutes 20 seconds, one engineer and one approval. See the minute-by-minute timeline.

You stay in control. Oppex proposes; your engineers decide. Every finding links to the signal behind it, low-confidence findings are labelled as such, and nothing runs automatically on a guess. If a finding is wrong, mark it, and Oppex learns from the correction.

Is Oppex cheaper than FireHydrant?

Yes. Oppex Business is $20 per user against $25 per responder for FireHydrant Pro — 20% less, with phone and SMS paging, alert grouping and AI investigation included. Oppex Growth, at $12, is about half the price of FireHydrant Pro.

When is FireHydrant the better choice?

  • You want a runbook-driven incident process and a service catalog, and alerting already works for you elsewhere.
  • You already run Freshservice and want incidents and IT service management from one vendor.
  • The free plan, with up to 10 responders, covers what you need.

How do we move from FireHydrant to Oppex?

The Oppex team imports your users, teams, services, on-call schedules and escalation policies, and connects your monitoring, chat and ticketing tools. Oppex then runs in shadow mode — it groups and investigates a copy of every alert and pages nobody — so you compare results on your own alerts before switching paging over. The full four-week plan.

“Oppex has fundamentally changed how we run production operations at Capillary. We’ve automated our incident workflows, eliminated manual NOC processes, brought global engineering teams onto a unified operating model, and significantly reduced human intervention in incident management.”Piyush Kumar, CTO, Capillary
“Oppex allowed us to automate the manual workflows that previously required a NOC team to manage incidents. Intelligent grouping and routing have significantly reduced noise and enabled incidents to reach the right teams automatically, without losing operational control.”Murali V, Lead NOC, Capillary

Frequently asked questions

What are the best FireHydrant alternatives?

Teams usually compare FireHydrant with incident.io, Rootly, PagerDuty and Oppex AI. Oppex includes phone and SMS paging, alert grouping and an AI SRE agent that investigates every incident in one plan at $20 per user per month, where FireHydrant keeps alert grouping and AI for Enterprise.

Who owns FireHydrant now?

Freshworks agreed to acquire FireHydrant in December 2025 and plans to make it the incident management and reliability layer inside Freshservice, its IT service management product.

How much does FireHydrant cost compared with Oppex?

FireHydrant Pro is $25 per responder per month billed annually, with phone and SMS notifications bought separately (public pricing, October 2026). Oppex Business is $20 per user per month with phone and SMS paging, alert grouping and AI investigation included; Oppex Growth is $12.

How can an on-call team reduce alert fatigue? Which tools help?

Group related alerts into one incident before anyone is paged, suppress flapping and self-clearing alerts, and fix the noisiest monitors first. Oppex does all three on every plan: it groups alerts from all your monitoring tools with the reason shown, suppresses flapping alerts, and sends a weekly noisiest-monitors report with suggested fixes.

How do we move from FireHydrant to Oppex?

The Oppex team imports your users, teams, services, on-call schedules and escalation policies and connects your monitoring tools. Oppex can run in shadow mode first, so you compare results on your own alerts before switching paging over.
